Varicose vein surgery
Varicose veins are very common and are often hereditary. If left untreated, they can grow worse and cause painful vein inflammations. Surgery is one treatment option.
In some cases, a medical compression sock, sized according to the patient’s measurements, may be sufficient. More severe cases can be treated surgically.
If surgical treatment is needed, preparations for the procedure will be made not only by the surgeon him- or herself, but also by a physician who specialises in anaesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anaesthesiologist) and a team of nurses. We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.
At Diacor, we use state-of-the-art surgical and anaesthetic techniques. There are several anaesthesia options for varicose vein surgery. In practice, modern varicose vein surgery means laser surgery, foam injections or the crochet hook method, where some blood vessels are removed. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anaesthesiologist.
Thanks to the advanced surgical techniques, you can be discharged from care the same day, if you wish. These same technological advances have also reduced the need for sick leave; foam injections require no sick leave whatsoever. After laser surgery, you will need 1-2 weeks of sick leave, depending on the nature of your work and the scope of the treatment.
When you are here, we will also schedule any necessary aftercare and follow-up appointments.
You can make an appointment with a surgeon or orthopaedic physician online or by calling 09 7750 800.
Please bring information about your insurance and about any examinations you have had elsewhere.
If you are referred to surgery, you can make an appointment for the procedure directly with the surgeon or by calling the hospital on 09 7750 8180. Before you make an appointment, please make sure that you have an approved promissory note from your insurance company.
Please read the hospital admission information and fill in the patient information form.
