Surgical treatment of disc herniation

Disc herniation surgery (microdiscectomy) should be considered if the symptoms have persisted for more than six weeks and the disc herniation does not heal on its own.

At Diacor’s hospital, disc herniation surgery is performed with a microscope-assisted technique. The patient can usually be discharged from care the same day, but it is also possible to stay the night in the hospital. The patient can usually return to work after 3-6 weeks. Active rehabilitation, exercises and physiotherapy (starting 4-6 weeks after the procedure) are central to the recovery process.
