Psychophysical physiotherapy is a specialist field within physiotherapy, which focuses on improving the patient’s overall functionality. Psychophysical physiotherapy is suitable for treating stress, sleeplessness and burnout symptoms. It can also be used to treat chronic pain and tension as well as different kinds of body awareness problems.
Experiential learning is central to psychophysical physiotherapy. By getting to know his or her own body better, the patient learns to see the connections between feelings, stress and bodily symptoms. The treatment methods used include various kinds of breathing and body awareness exercises. The goals of the therapy are always defined according to the patient’s resources and life situation.
Psychophysical treatment methods include BBAT (Basic Body Awareness Therapy), psychophysical breathing therapy, relaxation and TRE (tension & trauma releasing exercises). BBAT consists of simple body awareness and interaction exercises and touch-based treatment.
