Psychophysical physiotherapy

Psychophysical physiotherapy is a specialist field within physiotherapy, which focuses on improving the patient’s overall functionality. Psychophysical physiotherapy is suitable for treating stress, sleeplessness and burnout symptoms. It can also be used to treat chronic pain and tension as well as different kinds of body awareness problems.

Experiential learning is central to psychophysical physiotherapy. By getting to know his or her own body better, the patient learns to see the connections between feelings, stress and bodily symptoms. The treatment methods used include various kinds of breathing and body awareness exercises.  The goals of the therapy are always defined according to the patient’s resources and life situation.

Psychophysical treatment methods include BBAT (Basic Body Awareness Therapy), psychophysical breathing therapy, relaxation and TRE (tension & trauma releasing exercises). BBAT consists of simple body awareness and interaction exercises and touch-based treatment.

Make an appointment by calling 09 7750 800. You can also make an appointment at the reception desk at any Diacor medical centre.  When making your appointment, please mention that you wish to see a physiotherapist who specialises in psychophysical physiotherapy.

Please arrive on time to make sure you have sufficient time to sign in. If you have previously received treatment elsewhere, please bring any relevant test results and case histories with you.

You can pay at the reception desk after your treatment session.

The price for psychophysical physiotherapy depends on the length of the treatment session. For instance, the price for a 60-minute session is 82 euros. However, a doctor's referral for physiotherapy entitles you to a small Social Insurance Institution (Kela) reimbursement. Psychophysical physiotherapy is available even if you do not have a referral. An outpatient clinic fee of 18,90 € is added to the price. For a series of appointments, we charge one outpatient clinic fee for five appointments.

Good results are often achieved already after five treatment sessions, especially in cases of acute stress or sleeplessness symptoms. Learning to breathe correctly and to be aware of bodily sensations is central to the therapy. If the symptoms are prolonged, we recommend a series of 8-15 treatment sessions.
