We perform various kinds of knee surgery in our private hospital. The need for surgery is always assessed individually. Factors such as the patient’s age and hobbies, the physical demands of his or her profession and relevant test results are all taken into account.
A keyhole procedure is a quick and easy way of diagnosing any problems in the knee: the meniscus, the articular cartilage and the main ligaments are readily visible. Most problems can also be corrected during the same procedure.
The most common types of knee surgery are:
- Meniscus removal
- Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery
- Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) surgery
For each procedure, preparations are made not only by the surgeon him- or herself but also by a physician who specializes in anesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anesthesiologist) and a team of nurses. We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.
We use modern surgical and anesthetic techniques, allowing you to leave the hospital the same day. Our surgeons treat many young athletes - some as young as ten years old - for knee injuries. Some knee injuries can be treated non-surgically.
There are several types of anesthesia and pain relief that can be used during knee surgery. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anesthesiologist. Minor surgical procedures, such as keyhole surgery in the knee, can often be performed under local anesthetic and using intravenous pain relief.
Here at Diacor, the surgeons cooperate closely with the occupational healthcare professionals as well as with the physiotherapists. Our comprehensive healthcare network provides flexibility, allowing the patient to return to work and everyday life when he or she is ready. Together, our various professionals assess the need for sick leave, decide on the best treatment and rehabilitation and suggest ways of adapting your working environment to your needs after the procedure.
Professional physiotherapy is part of our chain of care. Active, regular and controlled rehabilitation is important. Professional guidance supports the rehabilitation process and facilitates the return to everyday life.
