Hand surgery

We perform various kinds of surgical procedures on the hands and arms in our private hospital. The need for surgery is always assessed individually. Factors such as the patient’s age and hobbies, the physical demands of his or her profession and relevant test results are all taken into account.

Hand and arm surgeons treat diseases and injuries of the forearm, wrist, hand and fingers. Some such problems can be linked to tendon, nerve and vascular injuries which require surgical expertise.

The most commonly treated hand injuries include:

  • nerve entrapment
  • hand and wrist osteoarthritis
  • Dupuytren's disease
  • repetitive strain injuries
  • tendon inflammation
  • benign tumours and soft tissue abnormalities such as ganglion cysts, i.e. usually painless lumps which most commonly appear on the back of the wrist.

For each procedure, preparations are made not only by the surgeon him- or herself but also by a physician who specialises in anaesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anaesthesiologist) and a team of nurses.  We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.

We use modern surgical and anaesthetic techniques, allowing you to leave the hospital the same day. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anaesthesiologist. Minor surgical procedures can often be performed under local anaesthetic and using intravenous pain relief.

Here at Diacor, the surgeons cooperate closely with the occupational healthcare professionals as well as with the physiotherapists. Our comprehensive healthcare network provides flexibility, allowing the patient to return to work and everyday life when he or she is ready. Together, our various professionals assess the need for sick leave, decide on the best treatment and rehabilitation, and suggest ways of adapting your working environment to your needs after the procedure.

Our chain of care includes professional physiotherapy, which supports the rehabilitation process and facilitates the return to everyday life. When you are here for your operation, we will also schedule any necessary aftercare and follow-up appointments.

In the case of some hand and arm injuries, functionality can be restored with other forms of treatment such as splinting or rehabilitation.

Prices for the most common procedures performed by hand and arm surgeons:
Median nerve release surgery (carpal tunnel syndrome) starts from €1900
Ulnar release surgery starts from €2390

A total cost estimate is made during an appointment with the specialist who performs the procedure. The final price is determined by the materials and implants used, the duration and difficulty of the procedure, the need for additional examinations, and the length of the hospital stay. The Social Insurance Institution (Kela) can reimburse part of the surgeon’s and anaesthesiologist's fees. The size of the reimbursement is determined by the standard rate which has been set by the Social Insurance Institution for the relevant procedure code. In practice, the reimbursement does not cover the full cost of the procedure.

We have built up long-term partnerships with several insurance companies. Learn more about our insurance agreements.

With a Diacor Hoitotili (Diacor Healthcare Account), you get opportunities for flexible payment. If you wish, you can pay your bill in instalments.
