Gastroscopy in children

Gastroscopy may be needed to find the cause of unexplained stomach problems or prolonged reflux symptoms. It can also be used to take biopsies in order to diagnose coeliac disease.

Gastroscopy is performed as a day surgery procedure, under general anaesthesia. After the procedure, the child is monitored in the recovery room. The child can return to school or day care the following day. You will later be given an opportunity to discuss the results of the biopsies and any further treatment with a physician.
