Gastrointestinal surgery

At Diacor’s private hospital, we perform various kinds of gastrointestinal procedures. For instance, gallstone disease and different kinds of hernias often require surgical treatment.

Among the most common gastrointestinal procedures are abdominal hernia repair (inguinal hernias, diaphragmatic hernias, sports hernias and wound hernias) and gallstone surgery. Gastroesophageal reflux disease can also be treated surgically, if necessary. Furthermore, we treat conditions such as rectal prolapse, haemorrhoids, anal fissures and defecation difficulties.

For each procedure, preparations are made not only by the surgeon him- or herself but also by a physician who specialises in anaesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anaesthesiologist) and a team of nurses. We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.

We use modern surgical and anaesthetic techniques, allowing you to leave the hospital the same day. Most procedures are performed as keyhole (laparoscopic) procedures, which make quick recovery possible. The benefit of laparoscopic surgery is that it only leaves small and almost painless surgical wounds. After the procedure, the patient can soon start moving around normally, which reduces the need for sick leave as well as the risk for embolism. Infections are also rare.

There are several types of anesthesia and pain relief that can be used during gastrointestinal surgery. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anesthesiologist. Learn more about the different options here.

When you are here for your surgery, we will give you home care instructions. We will also schedule any necessary aftercare and follow-up appointments.

Prices for the most common gastrointestinal procedures:
Inguinal hernia repair on one side starts from €2895, on both sides starts from €3325
Inguinal hernia repair on one side, open surgery starts from €2070 (under general anesthesia)
Laparoscopic incisional hernia repair starts from €3175
Laparoscopic umbilical hernia repair starts from €2180
Laparoscopic gallbladder removal starts from €3345

A total cost estimate is made during an appointment with the specialist who performs the procedure. The final price is determined by the materials and implants used, the duration and difficulty of the procedure, the need for additional examinations and the length of the hospital stay.

The Social Insurance Institution (Kela) can reimburse part of the surgeon’s and anaesthesiologist's fees. The size of the reimbursement is determined by the standard rate which has been set by the Social Insurance Institution for the relevant procedure code. In practice, the reimbursement does not cover the full cost of the procedure.

We have built up long-term partnerships with several insurance companies. Learn more about our insurance agreements.

Diacor’s hospital now also treats inguinal hernia patients with service vouchers issued by HUS.

With a Diacor Hoitotili (Diacor Healthcare Account), you get opportunities for flexible payment. If you wish, you can pay your bill in instalments.
