Back surgery

We perform various kinds of back surgery in our private hospital. The need for surgery is always assessed individually. Factors such as the patient’s age and hobbies, the physical demands of his or her profession and relevant test results are all taken into account.

Among others, the following back problems can be treated surgically:

For each procedure, preparations are made not only by the surgeon him- or herself but also by a physician who specialises in anesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anesthesiologist) and a team of nurses.  We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.

We use modern surgical and anesthetic techniques, allowing you to leave the hospital the same day. Back surgery is always performed under general anesthesia. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anesthesiologist.

Here at Diacor, the surgeons cooperate closely with the occupational healthcare professionals as well as with the physiotherapists. Our comprehensive healthcare network provides flexibility, allowing the patient to return to work and everyday life when he or she is ready. Together, our various professionals assess the need for sick leave, decide on the best treatment and rehabilitation and suggest ways of adapting your working environment to your needs after the procedure.

Professional physiotherapy is part of our chain of care. Active and regular rehabilitation of the back is important. Professional guidance supports the rehabilitation process and facilitates the return to everyday life. When you are here, we will also schedule any necessary aftercare and follow-up appointments.

Some back injuries can be treated non-surgically, for instance with physiotherapy.

Expenses

Prices for the most common types of back surgery:
Disc herniation surgery (extirpation) starts from €4455
Nerve root decompression in the lumbar region starts from €4935

A total cost estimate is made during an appointment with the specialist who performs the procedure. The final price is determined by the materials and implants used, the duration and difficulty of the procedure, the need for additional examinations and the length of the hospital stay.

The Social Insurance Institution (Kela) can reimburse part of the surgeon’s and anaesthesiologist's fees. The size of the reimbursement is determined by the standard rate which has been set by the Social Insurance Institution for the relevant procedure code. In practice, the reimbursement does not cover the full cost of the procedure.

We have built up long-term partnerships with several insurance companies. Learn more about our insurance agreements.

With a Diacor Hoitotili (Diacor Healthcare Account), you get opportunities for flexible payment. If you wish, you can pay your bill in instalments.
