Ankle and foot surgery
We perform various kinds of surgical procedures on the ankles and feet in our private hospital. The need for surgery is always assessed individually. Factors such as the patient’s age and hobbies, the physical demands of his or her profession and relevant test results are all taken into account.
The ankles and feet are susceptible to injuries because of their anatomical structure. The foot and ankle problems which most commonly require surgical treatment are:
- plantar tendon inflammation (plantar fasciitis)
- hammer or claw toe
- ankle sprains and strains
- nerve damage in the ankle
We also perform ankle keyhole surgery (arthroscopy).
For each procedure, preparations are made not only by the surgeon him- or herself but also by a physician who specialises in anaesthesia and pain relief (i.e. an anaesthesiologist) and a team of nurses. We carefully assess the patient’s general physical condition as well as any individual risk factors. Learn more about the preparations for surgical procedures here.
We use modern surgical and anaesthetic techniques, allowing you to leave the hospital the same day. Shoulder surgery is always performed under general anaesthesia. Before the procedure, you will get an opportunity to discuss the various methods of pain relief with our anaesthesiologist. For surgery in the lower limbs, regional anaesthesia is usually the most suitable option. For surgery on a small area of the body, such as keyhole surgery in the ankle, local anaesthesia combined with intravenous sedative painkillers is usually sufficient.
Here at Diacor, the surgeons cooperate closely with the occupational healthcare professionals as well as with the physiotherapists. Our comprehensive healthcare network provides flexibility, allowing the patient to return to work and everyday life when he or she is ready. Together, our various professionals assess the need for sick leave, decide on the best treatment and rehabilitation and suggest ways of adapting your working environment to your needs after the procedure.
Our chain of care includes professional physiotherapy, which supports the rehabilitation process and facilitates the return to everyday life. When you are here for your operation, we will also schedule any necessary aftercare and follow-up appointments.
